Clothe Yourselves in His attributes

Being in quarantine has given me opportunity to reflect. What am I supposed to do? How can I help influence others? This weekend, shown me how small ripple effects can make a lasting impact.

On Saturday, we celebrated a friends birthday. Her little sister organized the event in a nearby park, social distancing and mask, of course. As we slowly arrive, everyone pitched into help. It felt good to see everyone beyond video chat. There was a comfortable and organic interactions between all of us. I certainly miss being around people, more importantly my friends. The weather, sunny and cool set the mood, and it gave me time to catch up with everyone. I think we can certainly all agree, quarantine hasn’t been a kind diet and we can’t wait for gyms to reopen, lol!

Although, it was a race against time to setup, decorate, without spoiling the surprise. We had only the use of one air pump, no helium, scotch tape, ribbon, no scissors, and a dynamic idea to use bottles of SunnyD to stabilize balloons. Ha! In the end it all came together, beautifully. All that was missing was the arrival of the birthday girl. We decided to cross over to the other side of the park to await the guest of honor. As we walked across the grass, it was nice to engage in small talk and laughter. Her little sister keep us abreast of their ETA.

At last, the birthday girl arrived, commence the cheers and shouts of surprise. As the music turned up, the volume in our hearts for our friend overshadow the music. Prior to the start of the party, we discovered one of her love language was words of affirmation. Each of us took turns expressing our feelings about her. I witnessed how God had chosen this pivotal moment to glorify His daughter. He had her surrounded by a community.

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. -Colossians 3:12

Her generosity and kindness of spirit has given us a gift beyond measure. It was evident in everyone’s speech, especially hearing her uncle and father talk about her character. Her uncle, being a pastor spoke about how he enjoyed seeing her relationship with God, flourish. She was a bible study leader over this community, but never neglected her role as a student. She was devoted to the Teacher, God and the direction He had set before her. She continue to study the bible with the help from her uncle, who was honored to be her guide.

Everyone connected to God, bare witness of her love for Him. From the very beginning, she was clothed in His attributes. Her love for God, had a natural effect toward others. God had chosen her to be the difference maker. Her purpose was very clear this day, she was chosen to lead others into the Kingdom. She allowed God to clothe her in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Made in the image of God.

The focus wasn’t about materialistic things, but the blessing of how when they see her, they see the essence of God. She wore Him proudly.

  1. I’m glad that you were all able to get together. As humans, we require a certain personal interaction so this time can be stressful. I’m glad you all were able to make the best of it.
